GOAL SETTINGS IN 2025 : How to set goals and achieve them.

Last week I asked a question : Have you created your vision board for the year? What are your goals and what do you hope to achieve this year?
And then I realized that most of us don’t even know where to start. So today I am going to be talking about goal settings.

First off, setting goals is very important because it helps you have a game plan, a blue print and what you expect or how you expect your year to run. Goal setting is key for a whole lot of reasons;

– It provides direction.
– It helps keep you focused.
– It motivates you.
– It allows you to measure your progress.
– It helps you be accountable.
– It helps you overcome procrastination.
– It helps you to identify potential obstacles and deal with them.
– It leads to personal growth.

Setting a goal lets you focus on the next step and helps you move in the direction you want. The body follows the mind, so you need to stay focused and not lose motivation.

How do you set goals in 2025?

1. You need to reflect on the past year.
– What goals did you set and were you able to achieve them?
– What challenges or obstacles did you face?
– What did you discover or learn about yourself during that journey?

If you answer these questions honestly, it will help you know what you can do differently in 2025 to achieve an even better result.

2. What is your why?

Identifying the reason why you want to walk down this road gives you a clearer vision as to how to go about it. What really drives you and what is your passion? What do you hope to achieve with your goals by the end of the year? What kind of person do you want to become at the end of the year?

This will help you ensure that you stay focused and accountable to your goals, it gives you a jumpstart and motivates you to carry on no matter the bump, obstacle or challenge that comes ahead.

3. Your goals have to be S.M.A.R.T.

S: Specific – Your goal has to be specific and straight to the point. Eg; You would like to save money more this year then your goal should be: I want to save 1 million by the end of 2025. You see? You’ve set a specific goal. It has to be as clear as day what you want to accomplish.
M: Measurable – Your goal has to be quantifiable, so you can easily track your progress. Wanting to save a million by year end… How much do you intend to save weekly? monthly? Quarterly?
A: Attainable – Your goal should be challenging but achievable. There’s no need to set a goal that you won’t be able to achieve. Yes it’s okay to push yourself, but how about taking it 1 step at a time so you don’t end up compromising your core values because you want to achieve your goal or stopping half way because you just can’t continue anymore. Set attainable goals.
R: Relevant – Your goals should be connected to your broader goals. This goes to say that there should be a greater purpose as to why you want to achieve that goal. This helps you stay focused and committed to it.
T: Time bound – Your goal should have a deadline or a specific time line. You have to give yourself a time frame to achieve your goal, this doesn’t mean that you’ve failed if you do not achieve it by then but it pushes you to do so. You can’t just say; “I want to save 1 million this year”. At what month of the year do you want to have the 1 million chilling in your account? When do you really want to achieve this?

SMART goals help you stay focused and make progress towards your goals and it has to be in line with the “why” you listed.

4. Create an Action Plan

What is an action plan in goal setting? This involves breaking down your goals into actionable plans. What can you do today that can add up to achieving your long term goal? What can you do to move closer to your goals? How much can you save daily, weekly or monthly in order to have your 1 million by the end of the year? What are you cutting off or cutting down on? Do you need to cut down on your spending to achieve this goal? Can you create a monthly budget that can help you streamline your expenses so you can achieve this goal?
You have to state it clearly.

5. Get an accountability partner.

This right here is another reason we fall short sometimes in achieving our goals. Getting an accountability partner helps you keep up with your commitment to your goals. Your accountability partner should be someone you respect and listen to when they talk or advise you.

6. Be Intentional.

It’s one thing to set goals and it’s another thing to keep up with achieving it. You need to be intentional about working towards achieving your goals. You need to be honest with yourself and determine that no matter what happens, you will achieve this. Most times, internal motivation works better than any external motivation so make up your mind today to achieve that goal.

I believe that Congratulations are in order. If you follow through all these steps, you’ve set yourself up for success.
