Valentine is gradually becoming disparaged if you ask me!
The hype, the buzz, the deep need and desire to be gifted and shown love, the fact that some people go out of their way to please people who they don’t even love because they want something in return, the adrenaline rush, the disappointments, the heartaches, the awwwww’s and ohhhhh’s and every other thing in-between.
So I ask, what do you think is the true essence of Valentine?
Valentine’s Day was named after a man called Saint Valentine for “obvious reasons” that I wouldn’t want to bore us with. But his main aim was to show love, to express love and show appreciation to our loved ones. PS : Not just lovers but family and friends as well.
The God-Kind of Love is a love expressed to all, a pure love that comes from a place of deep admiration and affection for someone that you can do anything for them without expecting anything in return.
These days, we misunderstand and misinterpret the whole concept of Valentine.
This is the time we display the love of Christ to everyone around us not just our partners. This is the time to appreciate genuine friendships, to appreciate our family, this is the time to build a stronger bond with our spouses by showing them how much they mean to us through our words, actions and most especially gifts.
Broken? This is the time to heal : Forgive, let go of the hurt and devote to loving and treating yourself even better.
Let’s not deviate from the beautiful plan and mess ourselves up in the name of “Valentine”.
Love is more of a decision than a feeling. Make a decision today to be more intentional about loving yourself, your partner, friends, family and everyone around you.
Also make it a point of duty of get closer to God. You don’t know love until you know God.
