A few weeks ago, I listened to a teaching by Pastor Ify Onaga titled “THE POWER OF THE MARRIAGE COVENANT”.
To be honest, when it comes to marriage a whole lot of things are involved and it’s not easy. The best thing you can do for yourself and your unborn children is to marry right. No matter how we try to sugarcoat it, the choice of our life partner determines how our life and our generation eventually turns out. And it doesn’t just end in marrying right, there should be a purpose for your marriage, there should be a common goal, you have to put in the work to make it work.
I learned this some years back… Marriage is like a triangle, with the man and the woman at the opposite sides of the base and God at the tip and the closer they are moving to get to each other, they are meeting God, so your marriage should be about you two making God the focal point/centre of it.
Guys listen, you have this one man/woman to love and take care of for the rest of your life, you cannot fail at it.
Marriage is a covenant and what’s a covenant?
A Covenant is an irrevocable agreement, legally binding and done in the presence of witnesses.
So here are some of the highlights for me from the teaching;
– Marriage is a covenant, it creates vulnerability. It is so delicate that it needs to be protected.
– One of the reasons for Godcutting covenants is to protect love and partnership. God knows that if that level of commitment isn’t made, some people can easily walk away or hurt one another so you are legally bound not to.
– The love that prevails is a love taken to the place of covenant.
– Single life is the foundation of married life, married life is the foundation of the family, the family is the foundation of the society.
– Our success in marriage affects our success in other aspects of our lives.
– 3 institutions that the devil fights : The Church, The Family and The schools. One of God’s answers is Godly marriages.
– God is the 3rd person in the marriage covenant.
– I have the choice to build a heaven or hell in my home.
– In marriage, there are delegatable responsibilities and undelegatable ones, know the difference.
– I have to plan my life in order to have time for my husband, create a peaceful home and friendship for my husband.
– Love is a perishable commodity, I can’t store it… I need to keep nurturing, expressing and renewing it for it to blossom.
– I have this one man to love and take care of, I cannot fail at it.
– Learn to forgive, nobody is perfect. It is my responsibility to pray for my husband.
– I need to create time for family fun. It creates security for the children too.
– Model a consistent prayer life if he doesn’t have one, I don’t have to preach it.
– I need the support of my family in marriage, I cannot count them out.
– Marriage should be the both of us bringing in 100/100
– If I don’t submit to the man, I cannot influence him. Submission is key in marriage.
– Make my husband a king and I will be queen. I have to cover him, he’s my head.
We need to respect this covenant because God hates divorce. Build up your home, that’s God’s desire for you.
I hope this made sense to you as much as it did to me. It’s too late for our marriage to fail.
Good morning fam and have a lovely weekend ahead ❤️
