Relationship Goals Series Week 3 : You Cannot Love Someone into Readiness

So last week, we talked about Potential not being promise.

This week, we need to go deeper.

Because here’s something many of us learn the hard way:
You cannot love someone into being ready.
You can love them deeply.
You can be patient.
You can pray.
You can stay.

But if they are not ready – emotionally, mentally, spiritually – your love will start to feel like labour.

And love was never meant to feel like a rescue mission.

I’ve seen it happen so many times.

One person is ready for commitment.
Ready for accountability.
Ready for growth.
Ready to build.

The other?

Still figuring themselves out.
Still avoiding hard conversations.
Still running from responsibility.
Still calling “confusion” a personality trait.

And the one who is ready thinks:

“If I just love them well enough…
If I just support them harder…
If I just stay long enough…
They’ll grow.”

But growth is a decision.

And readiness is personal work.

No one can mature on your timeline just because you love them.

Let’s be honest.

Sometimes we stay because we see potential. Sometimes we stay because we believe our presence will inspire change.
Sometimes we stay because we don’t want to “give up” on someone.

But there’s a difference between supporting someone and trying to save them.

You can encourage growth.
You cannot force it.
You can create safety.
You cannot create readiness.

And when someone is unready, love starts to feel like:

• Over-explaining basic respect

• Begging for emotional consistency

• Carrying the weight of the relationship alone

• Shrinking your needs to keep the peace

That’s not partnership. That’s imbalance.

Here’s the part we don’t say out loud:

Sometimes two people love each other… but they are not in the same season.

One is building. One is still breaking cycles.

One is preparing for forever. One is still afraid of commitment.

And love alone cannot close that gap.

Even God does not force growth.

He invites it.

So why do we think we can love someone into transformation they haven’t chosen?

This doesn’t mean people can’t grow.

They can.

But they must want to.

They must be ready to do the work.
They must be willing to confront themselves.

And if you find yourself constantly exhausted trying to carry someone into maturity, pause and ask:

Am I loving them… or am I trying to raise them?

Intentional dating means asking hard questions early:

Are we aligned in readiness?
Do we want the same depth?
Is this person capable of meeting me where I am?

Not in potential or in promises.

In present reality.

Because the healthiest love isn’t one person dragging the other forward. It’s two people walking toward growth together.

This week, I want you to reflect honestly:

Are you trying to love someone into being ready… or are you choosing someone who already is?

See you next Saturday.
Have a great weekend 💖
