HONESTY VS TRANSPERANCY SERIES : EP 1

Yippee 😊 It’s Saturdays and Relationship 😁💃
So I’m starting a series today on Honesty and Transparency.

This is a very sensitive topic and I hope we get to really understand it’s significance when it comes to relationships and marriage.

Someone sent me a video a few days ago that struck me… I never knew this or didn’t really think of it this way until I watched that video and I told myself that I really have to talk about this.

There’s actually a big difference between Honesty and Transparency.

Honesty can be you telling the truth when you are asked, not mincing words or trying to make the situation look better for the other person’s consumption but.. Transparency is actually being upfront even before you do something, transparency is you being intentional with keeping your partner in the know about your whereabouts, what you are upto. Transparency is showing empathy, putting the other person’s feelings before yours, carrying them along, easing their mind and being open with your actions and decisions.

Take this scenerio for example : Your partner asks you where you have been all evening and you go ahead to tell him or her that you went out with some friends, got some drinks and watched football, etc; you actually tell the truth and that’s honesty.

Transparency on the other hand is : “Hey babe, I’m going out tonight with some of my friends (you go ahead to mention those friends, even the one she might feel uncomfortable about) and I will be home late, will buzz you as soon as I get home.” you can even add “I would like you to join us if you love to”
This is you being transparent. You told your partner what it is and now they trust it completely. They know not to bug you either because they know exactly where you are and what’s happening.

The truth is that a lot of people think that they are honest but in the real sense ain’t even transparent.

Now, this is what being transparent helps you achieve in your relationship.

– Trust
– Respect
– Submission
– Deep admiration
– Emotional security
– Deeper intimacy
– Open Communication
– Strong emotional bond
– Effective Conflict Resolution.

And the list goes on… It takes intentionality to actually build a relationship that will last, so now that you know the difference, next time you want to actually relate something to your partner, try being more transparent.

To be continued…
