CHAPTER 2

SILENCE : PART B

Amira sat in her car, parked outside Elite Securities. She hadn’t set foot in that building since…Memories flooded back. Her internship at Elite Securities, three years ago. Chief Okunnu’s charisma and mentorship had drawn her in but beneath his polished exterior, Amira discovered a manipulative, predatory man. He’d cornered her in his office, making unwanted advances.

Amira was nothing but good to her boss Chief Okunnu but he saw nothing but beyond her dress.

No doubt, Amira could be described as one who is endowed with well detailed curves and mind blowing black beauty. She obviously knew she would be attracting men, at least if not for her beauty but at least her banging body so she’s always very intentional about what she wears out, especially to her office space but she had this body that would always reveal itself on any dress she puts on, she couldn’t just hide it in as much as she wants to. She walks into Chief okunnu’s office for her interview as he insisted he handles the interview himself in order to talk to them personally and know their level of intelligence.

“Next applicant”, his personal assistant calls out from the door of chief’s office. Amira stood up and made her way into the office.

“Oouuuu” he said looking at Amira from above his lense as she walks towards his desk. “You can excuse us now Tunde”.

“Good morning sir” Amira greets as she stands behind the office chair opposite chief, waiting for him to offer her a seat.

“Good morning beautiful lady” he said, smiling sheepishly “you may sit” he said, looking so lost as his eyes followed the movement of her body till she sat. “How are you? what is your name? and what position are you applying for?” He asked still smiling, wiggling his rotatable seat.

“I’m fine sir. My name is Amira and I’m applying for the position of your secretary sir” Amira replied.

“Hmmmmmmm my secretary, that’s nice “he said, nodding his head “hand me your CV let me see what you’re made off intellectually” he said winking at her and smiling which really got Amira so uncomfortable. She gives him her CV, and he looked quite impressed which gave her a little hope. “I’m quite impressed with what I see here, it’s really nice…………but, convince me you’re good for the job. Tell me why I should pick you instead of the others or let’s put it this way, why do you want this job”

“OK sir, I’m not trying to brag but permit me if it seems like I am. I am very good at what I do. I graduated with first class honours in business administration, I’m a very dedicated and committed person, I relate so well with people and I promise you Sir if I get this job I won’t let you down. I’m going to put in my best in making sure all your official needs are met sir, please sir I really need this job.

“I am the breadwinner in my home, and I have a sick mom, sir please help me” She said everything at a stretch without stopping to breathe till she was done talking but it looked like he was more interested in her fair chest because it was obvious he was seeing beyond her dress.

“Hmmm, impressive. You’re not only beautiful, you’re smart and I like you. “I like your personality” he said drawing her figure 8 in the air to describe her “personality” according to his own description of personality. “I hope you will really be committed to this work as you said”

“Yes sir, I will do anything sir” she said, without knowing the implications of what she just said.

“Hmmmm, anything” as he laughs aloud “I’ll hold you by your words Amira, anyways, congratulations my newest secretary, you just earned yourself the position…………Tunde” he calls his assistant

“Jesus! Thank you Sir, God bless you Sir, God bless you Sir, you won’t regret this “she says almost on the ground in appreciation ” when can I start sir”

“You’ve started already” chief said smiling

“Sir” Tunde walks in

“Show her to her office, she starts today” he said acting serious not to be suspected.

“Ok sir” Tunde directs her to the door.

“Thank you so much Sir, thank you” she keeps bowing till she leaves for her office.

Weeks went by and Amira seemed to be loving it there. She worked so diligently that she didn’t suspect anyone or anything. Chief Okunnu kept observing her as his next prey of course, her colleagues at work tried warning her and told her stories of the previous secretaries but she shunned them saying “Chief is a good man, they obviously seduced him or did something to him, he’s not what you think he is” so everyone avoided her like a plague because she seemed like someone who would do anything to retain her position, including snitching on them to Chief Okunnu.

“Amira, come to my office” Chief called Amira to his office.

“Ok sir” Amira rushed in as usual.”Sir,you sent for me ”

“Yes, come and explain the content of this file you sent me. Some information seem to be missing here” He said, looking interested in the file.

“Ok sir” she came over to his side to explain and not long enough, she notices something crawling beneath her skirt.”Could this be breeze or cockroach? God please let it not be what I’m thinking but what if it is?

I can’t afford to loose my job, I haven’t even received a salary yet. Jesus, it’s still going up, should I talk? Should I stop him?” all these she said to herself and was so scared of speaking up but she tried holding herself and inhaling all the air around and almost loosing her breath.

“Does it mean she likes it? She’s not stopping me” Chief Okunnu thought to himself. As he was about taking it a step further to take off her undies,  she moves a little bit away from him.

“Im sorry sir, I don’t understand what you’re doing. I didn’t see this in my job description sir” she said playing with her hands and looking at her shoe feeling shy. Of course, these are the kind of girls Chief Okunnu likes,” NOVICES” who are shy and don’t know what to do when they are in a tight corner with their bosses.

“Hahaha, I know you like it, you’re just a pretty stubborn girl but don’t worry you’ll get over it soon” he said trying to win her over. “You can go now”

“Thank you sir” she rushed with speed out of his office before he changes his mind with her heart racing like it’s going to leave her chest.

She couldn’t tell anyone because they would mock her. She was scared of loosing her job. She had a sick mother, a jobless father, a dubious fiancee that she loves obsessively because he promised to marry her and younger siblings who are owing school fees and the policy of the office is “No full salary till 3 months of full commitment to the company”. Her full salary is 300k so she’d be paid 150k for 3 months. Her mother’s bill alone is 5million naira for the surgery and no one knows if she’s going to survive after the surgery….so she can’t loose her job, anything to keep her job she would do it.a

Days went by, she noticed Chief Okunnu never called her to do anything for him unlike before and she was scared he was preparing to sack her, but was he? she couldn’t tell because he acted like she didn’t exist, he kept using his P.A to run the errands he would normally send her to run which was unusual. What if he’s trying to use the reverse psychology on her. She summoned courage to meet him. She knocks on his door and goes in.

“Good morning Sir” she greeted with her head down.

“How’re you Amira” He answered focused on his system and seeming uninterested in whatever she had to say.

“I’m fine Sir” she replied him looking scared .

“What brings you to my office “still looking uninterested

“Sir i noticed you no longer send me on errands or give me work like you used to. Sir are you upset with me?” she was unsure if what his response would be.

“Upset? you think I’m upset? Why so? He asked, trying to play with her brains

“I know you’re upset about what happened the last time sir, and I came to apologize sir” She finally caught his attention.

“Well if you think what you did was wrong, then do the needful. You promised your full commitment, remember? That was when it dawned on her that she had dug her own grave thinking she was creating a gutter for easy passage.

“Sir I didn’t know that………”She still tried to explain when he cut her short.

“Book a flight for two, I would be having a 2 weeks meeting in Abuja next week” He said staring at his system and seeming less interested in whatever she had to say.

“Alright sir” She was happy at least he’ll be out for 2 weeks, she could use this period to understand her job description better.

“Get ready, you’ll be coming with me. Clear your schedule” He said, still acting uninterested in whatever she had to say.

“Sirrrrr?” She replied in shock, she didn’t expect it, she expected him to go with his assistant

“Any problem?” He said giving her a stern look that she couldn’t say a word. “You may go”. She walked out slowly like someone who just signed her death warrant without knowing.
